Hi all,

I am new to this forum, and thought i would vent my frustration with tesco insurance.

My wife has been insured with them for the past 2 or 3 years! About 3 weeks ago some sod broke into our house and took both cars.
We sent all the documentation to Tesco with reference to the claim and they noted that i have 6 points on my license (named driver) and we had not told them. They then told us that over the period of 3 years (that we have been insured with them) we now owe them around £2700!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand that we are in the wrong and that we had not told them, but this was not intentional i feel that this is a very grey area that they skate over when getting a quote over the phone. I.E did you know that your points for speeding are convictions not endorsements!

Also as i am a named driver not even the main policy holder i find it very hard to believe that the insurance would have cost this amount!

I got a quote today, on line with all the convictions and it was about £100 different! £2770 my arse!

We have instructed a Solicitor on this and i would love to know other peoples opinion on what to do! and if anyone has had the same problem?

Hi there,

This is one reason I always advise people against insuring online especially with companies like Tescos. There quotation engine on the website is so simple and asks for such little detail its a wonder how the hell they come up with the prices.

The reason they are coming up with this price is:-

Because the points were not disclosed Tesco's, they are now backdating cover back to the point of inception 3 years ago and you are being charged the addItional premium for those 3 years worth of premium, plus Tesco's will more than likely be adding their own administration fee to all of those charges as well. Wether your a named driver or main driver doesnt make a difference, its the face the points were there for 3 years on that policy.

Tesco's terms and conditions unfortunatley will state that you must disclose all information, and at yearly renewal they would of stated it again, they could of turned around and invalidated cover and outright refused to deal with the claim. If I were you then I would speak to a manager at Tesco's and then from there go to the Financial Onbusman Service, but getting a solicitor involved would be a costly process.

It's definately worth trying our car insurance quote service. We may be able to give you a very cheap online quote
